The picosecond laser delivers ultra-short energy pulses that shatter pigment particles into tiny fragments. The body naturally clears these particles, reducing visible spots. Precise targeting minimizes surrounding tissue damage, making it effective for sunspots, age spots, and many melasma cases in clinical settings.
Treatment numbers vary by pigment depth and skin type. Most clients see meaningful improvement after 2–4 sessions spaced four to eight weeks apart. Deeper or hormonal pigmentation like melasma may require additional sessions plus maintenance and topical support for optimal results.
Picosecond technology is safer across a wider range of skin tones than older lasers, but consultation is essential. Providers assess pigment type and risk of post-inflammatory changes, customizing settings or alternative approaches to minimize complications for darker skin tones.
Sessions begin with cleansing and topical numbing if needed. The clinician delivers brief pulses across affected areas; you may feel snapping or warmth. Treatment lasts 15–45 minutes depending on area. Post-care includes sunscreen and gentle skincare to support healing and results.
Most people experience mild redness, swelling, or temporary darkening of treated spots before flaking—these resolve within days to two weeks. Rarely, blistering or pigment changes occur. Following post-care instructions and avoiding sun reduces risks and promotes safe healing.
Avoid recent tanning, chemical peels, and retinoids before treatment. Afterward, use gentle cleansers, broad-spectrum sunscreen, and soothing ointments as directed. Avoid exfoliation, heat, and heavy makeup until healed. Consistent sun protection and prescribed topicals improve outcomes and prevent recurrence.
